These audio clips represent a sample of my DX receptions here in Lexington. They are in no particular order. All are FM receptions, except as noted. Not all are legal or "official" station IDs, just a random collection of IDs, liners, promos, commercials, etc. As time allows, new clips will show up at the top of the page.
KDLK KDLK (94.1), Del Rio, TX. 1,111 miles, recorded on 05/25/04.
WKTV-TV (ch 2), Utica, NY was in for a new log from 612 miles on 05/28/04.
KOMS - KOMS (107.3), Poteau, OK. This one makes it in here from time to time during good tropo openings. This one is from 04/18/04. KOMS is 588 miles away.
WJKK - WJKK (98.7), Vicksburg, MS - "Mix 98.7" Recorded during the tropo opening of 04/18/04 from 520 miles.
WANZ - WANZ (100.5), Northport, AL - "Z 100.5" - Recorded 04/18/04 from 377 miles via tropo.
WMSI - WMSI (102.9), Jackson, MS - "Miss 103" - Via tropo from 520 miles away on 04/18/04.
WSTZ.- WSTZ (106.7), Vicksburg, MS - Recorded 04/18/04 via tropo from 520 miles away.
KTJJ - KTJJ (98.5), Farmington, MO - Recorded 04/18/04 via tropo from 332 miles.
KZRR - KZRR (94.1), Albuquerque, NM - Recorded during an Es opening on 06/24/03 from 1,231 miles.
KKOB - KKOB (93.3), Albuquerque, NM - Recorded during an Es opening on 06/24/03 from 1,231 miles.
CKWM - CKWM (94.9), Kentville, Nova Scotia - We had a nice Es opening into the Maritimes on July 4, 2003. CKWM is 1,138 miles away.
KLTQ - KLTQ (101.9), Lincoln, NE - I had previously logged this one via Es. However, this clip was recorded during the outstanding tropo opening on July 20, 2003. KLTQ is 659 miles away.
KZEN - KZEN (100.3), Central City, NE - Copy was rough on this one, but considering it's tropo from 742 miles away, it's not bad. This is another one from the long-haul tropo opening on July 20, 2003.
KQLA - KQLA (103.5), Ogden, KS - The outstanding tropo opening on 07/20/03 brought this one in from 660 miles.
KZWY - KZWY (94.9), Sheridan, WY - Originally logged on 05/31/01, this one makes frequent appearances here during the summer Es season. This clip was recorded during July, 2003. It illustrates how, if you are very lucky, an Es station can fade up for the ID, then disappear. When Murphy's Law is in effect, the station fades just as the ID is coming. KZWY is 1,256 miles away.
CIEZ - CIEZ (96.5), Halifax, Nova Scotia - Recorded on 07/04/03 from 1,169 miles.
WAMO - WAMO (106.7), Beaver Falls, PA - This one is only 296 miles away, but is notable because I don't hear very many stations from PA. This was recorded on 08/20/03 during a brief tropo opening toward the northeast.
KGOR - KGOR (99.9), Omaha, NE - This is another clip from the outstanding tropo opening on 07/20/03. KGOR is 655 miles away.
CJLS - CJLS-FM-1 (93.5), New Tusket, Nova Scotia - Recorded on 07/03/03. This one is a little rough, but considering the station is 1,055 miles away and runs only 3 kilowatts, it's not bad.
KZNN - KZNN (105.3), Rolla, MO - From 396 miles, this short clip was recorded during the tropo opening on 07/20/03.
WKQX - WKQX (101.1), Chicago, IL - Recorded on 06/23/03, this one is 318 miles away.
WGCI - WGCI (107.5), Chicago, IL - At 317 miles, this one makes frequent visits here. This particular recording was made on 06/23/03.
KRTN - KRTN (93.3), Raton, NM - This nice ID was recorded on 06/26/03 during an Es opening. KRTN is 1,097 miles away.
KWYK - KWYK (94.9), Aztec, NM - Another nice ID recorded during the Es opening on 06/26/03. It's 1,304 miles away.
KACL - KACL (98.7), Bismarck, ND - From an Es opening on 06/19/03. KACL is 1,021 miles away.
KKPT - KKPT (94.1), Little Rock, AR - This was recorded during a nice tropo opening on 06/24/03. This one is 497 miles away.
KBYZ - KBYZ (96.5), Bismarck, ND - 1,021 miles during an Es opening on 06/19/03.
CKDK - CKDK (103.9), Woodstock, ON - Via tropo on 06/25/03. CKDK, "The Hawk" is 386 miles away. I've heard it here several times over the past few years.
KBAT - KBAT (93.3), Midland, TX - From 1,077 miles, this one is a frequent visitor during our typical sporadic E openings into west Texas.
CKEN - CKEN (97.7), Kentville, Nova Scotia - From the Es opening on 07/04/03. CKEN is 1,138 miles away.
KDBN and KKNG - KDBN (93.3), Haltom City (Dallas), Texas and KKNG (93.3), New Castle, OK. This was recorded during the Es opening on July 9, 2003. Sometimes you get two for the price of one. The recording starts out with a clean signal from KDBN. Then it fades, and KKNG pops up nicely with a set of call letters. KDBN is 787 miles away, and KKNG is 752 miles away.
KCSE - KCSE (96.5), Sterling City, TX - During an Es opening on July 9, 2003. KCSE is 1,026 miles away.
KKRY - KKRY (92.5), Miles City, MT - Short but sweet, with a nice set of call letters. This was recorded during an Es opening on 06/04/02. KKRY is 1,224 miles away.
KBNJ - KBNJ (91.7), Corpus Christi, TX - One fades out before giving up an ID, but another fades in with a nice ID. Sometimes you get lucky during an Es opening. This one is 1,037 miles away, and was recorded on 06/14/03.
KNFM - KNFM (92.3), Midland, TX - Recorded on July 9, 2003, this one is a frequent summer visitor from 1,084 miles. This one starts out a little rough, but cleaned up nicely enough to get the call letters.
KZPS - KZPS (92.5), Dallas, TX - This recording is short and sweet, with a nice set of call letters. It's from the Es opening on July 9, 2003. KZPS is a regular summer visitor from 796 miles.
XHXL - XHXL (91.7), Monterey, Nuevo Leon - Recorded during the Es opening on 06/14/03. XHXL is 1,257 miles away.
KQRC - KQRC (98.9), Leavenworth, KS - This one was booming in like a local from 551 miles away during a very nice tropo opening on 07/20/03.
WPWR-TV - WPWR-TV (Ch 50), Gary, IN - This was recorded on 02/05/02 during a nice winter tropo opening into the Chicago area. This one is 317 miles away.
CJEZ - CJEZ (97.3), Toronto, ON - Via Tropo on 06/23/03. CJEZ is 472 miles away.
KSLZ - KSLZ (107.7), Saint Louis, MO - This was another reception during a very nice tropo opening on 06/23/03. KSLZ is 320 miles away.
KOFX - KOFX (92.3), El Paso, TX - This one is a frequent visitor during the month of June when we have day after day of Es action into Texas. Click HERE for another clip recorded during July, 2003. KOFX is 1,314 miles away.
KTHC - KTHC (95.1), Sidney, MT. There are actually two stations in this clip. I was never able to definitively ID the one that popped in with the mention of Fargo. This was recorded during on Es opening on 06/19/03. KTHC is an even 1,200 miles away.
KCAD (99.1), Dickenson, ND - The signal quality on this one is pretty rough, but it does contain a nice read of the call letters. This was received on 06/19/03 from 1,113 miles away.
KIXY - KIXY (94.7), San Angelo, TX - Another of the frequent Texas visitors during the summer Es season. This clip was recorded on July 9, 2003. KIXY is 1,010 miles away.
CKCK-TV - CKCK-TV (Channel 2), Regina, SK - Via Es during June of 2003. CKCK-TV is 1,305 miles away, and is a frequent visitor here.
KPQX - KPQX (92.5), Havre, MT. This one was originally received here during 2001. This recording of the top-of-the-hour ID was captured made during June of 2003. At 1,444 miles, this is a good example of some of the longer Es that sometimes shows up here.
KZOR - KZOR (94.1), Hobbs, NM - Recorded during an Es opening during June of 2003. This one is a fairly frequent visitor here from 1,112 miles.
KOLL - KOLL (94.9), Maumelle, AR - Via Tropo on 11/09/01 - 496 miles - This one actually makes it in here for days on end during the spring and fall months. They are now KMSX. Click HERE to hear them as I heard them on 06/24/03 (I liked them better before).
XHSRO - XHSRO (92.3), Monterey, Nuevo Leon - Via Es on 06/14/03 - XHSRO is 1,260 miles away.
WZZT - WZZT (102.7), Morrison, IL - Via tropo on 06/24/03 from 393 miles. WZZT operates with 6,000 watts.
KAUR - KAUR (89.1), Sioux Falls, SD - Via Es on 06/14/02 - 886 miles - Note the proper top-of-the-hour legal ID, and the careful maintenance of audio levels. Drugs are bad...
KHRO (94.7), El Paso, TX - Via Es on 06/24/03 from 1,314 miles.
KYYX (97.1), Minot, ND - This is on the first adjacent to a local, thus the rough copy. It was recorded on 06/19/03. KYYX is 1,095 miles away.
KCJZ - KCJZ (106.7), Terrell Hills, TX - This clip is from July 9, 2003. KCJZ is another of the frequent visitors from Texas during the summer Es season. It's 1,009 miles away.
KBHT - KBHT (93.5), Crockett, TX - Recorded on July 12, 2003 during yet another Es opening into Texas. This one is 789 miles away.
KLBJ - KLBJ (93.7), Austin, TX - Recorded on July 12, 2003. KLBJ was putting in a decent signal on July 9, 2003. It's a summer regular here from 796 miles.
WCKG - WCKG (105.9), Elmwood Park, IL - Via tropo from 317 miles, this short clip was recorded on 06/08/03.
KAJA - KAJA (97.3), San Antonio, TX - This was recorded on July 9, 2003. From 1,004 miles, it's a regular here during the frequent summer Es openings into Texas.
WMFL - WMFL (88.5), Florida City, FL - Recorded during an Es opening on 06/24/03, this is an example of a lucky catch of a perfect legal ID. This doesn't happen often, especially in the non-commercial part of the FM band!
WNCW - WNCW (88.7), Spindale, NC - This was recorded during a short-haul tropo opening toward the southeast on 03/24/02. At only 196 miles, it's certainly not spectacular. However, this was the only time I've heard this station from this location.
WSJY - WSJY (107.3), Fort Atkinson, WI - Via tropo on 06/24/03, this one is from 411 miles.
WSMI - WSMI (106.1), Litchfield, IL - Recorded on 06/23/03. WSMI is 287 miles away.
WXRV - WXRV (92.5), Haverhill, MA - From the Es opening on July 4, 2003, this was a nice catch from an area where I don't often hear stations. WXRV is 776 miles away.
KIZZ (93.7), Minot, ND - This is another sporadic E reception from 06/18/03. KIZZ is 1,101 miles away.
WQAD-TV - WQAD-TV (Ch 8), Moline, IL - This one is a frequent visitor from 389 miles. This particular recording was made on 06/24/03. This reception is a good example of tropospheric ducting, as WQAD is almost in line with WISH-TV, Indianapolis. WISH is much closer at only 161 miles.
WQUL - WQUL (97.7), West Frankfort, IL - Recorded during a nice tropo opening on 10/09/02, this one illustrates that even the low power stations can make it through when conditions are right. WQUL is 244 miles away, and operates with only 3,500 watts.
